Unboxing

Mi In-Ear Headphone

With the current hype about XiaoMi products recently, I just can't hold myself to buy one of their product to try it out. So, here it is, Mi In-Ear Headphone packed with iF Product Design Award. Well, I have to say it is pretty decent packaging for a S$20+ in-ear headphone. But compared to my previous BassBud in-ear headphone, I still prefer my BassBud sound quality which is much clearer and more solid bass at only S$25+ that I get it from Groupon previously. Now it is selling at original price at £39.95 after the launch promotion ended. It is a less famous in-ear headphone but the quality is great and it is packaged in a hard cover small box with certificate from BassBud.

Let's not carry away too much from our topic here and back to XiaoMi In-Ear Headphone. The XiaoMi In-Ear Headphone is a very decent and nice quality in-ear headphone too given the attractive low price.

Unboxing XiaoMi Mi In-Ear Headphone
Mi In-Ear Headphone within the plastic wrapper

As you can see, it is being nicely package inside the box and a soft type of plastic wrapper. Upon unwrapping the box and plastic wrapper, here's where the gem sits. Pretty solid plastic box and seriously doesn't feel anything cheap at all. It feels pretty premium for a S$20+ in-ear headphone.

Not much things inside but everything needed is there

So, what's inside the box is as above. The Mi In-Ear Headphone, 3 different sizes pair of eartips, a carrying pouch and an exclusive iF Product Design Award clip. Well, that pretty much shows that these definitely worth more than S$20+. The pouch is definitely not waterproof and made of some cotton materials which feels pretty nice and comfortable.

Well, that's pretty much for the unboxing and I have to say this unboxing experience for a S$20+ in-ear headphone is quite nice and above my expectation especially the quality.

Design & Build Quality

Needless to say any further, the design itself has already explained why it gets iF Product Design Award. Again, I have to emphasize on the S$20+ because everything from this Mi In-Ear Headphone is definitely doesn't feel like it only worth S$20+. It feels like something more premium and worth more than that. Given this price, you definitely couldn't let this pass.

The beauty of this in-ear headphone lies in the fine details in the design. It doesn't feel cheap at all and it is very solid and light. That's why is it suitable to wear for a long duration as the weight of the headphone is only 12g. Besides, the cable is made of Kelvar braided cord which made it tangle-free.

The only thing I doesn't like is the inline-control. The buttons feels a little cheap and fragile. But that's only a minor which didn't really affect the overall experience and quality of the headphone.

Fit

Well, I have to say this can be vary depending on different individuals. As for me, I tried using the medium size and it sometime falls out from my ears if my movement are too big. I tried using the big pair of ear tips too but it is just too big to fit in. I guess I need to find another type of ear tips from other brands just to fit in these. But overall, the ear tips are quite comfortable but just okay and nothing more.

Audio Performance

Okay, here's the most important part of all, the audio performance. This is the part that will justify why this in-ear headphone worth more than S$20+. Before that, I have to clarify again that I am not an audiophile. I am just a casual user that love trying headphones. So, my opinions here are definitely not as pro and just to aid other users in their buying decisions.

The bass is definitely nice here but not solid enough and sometime a bit muddy for my preference. As a result, the sound is not as clear because of the slightly muddy bass. But overall experience is pretty good and the quality is on par with those S$50-S$80+ in-ear headphone.

It's fun to listen to almost all kind of music. But on 80-100% volume, the sound of the in-ear headphone starts to crack slightly but just very minor and still acceptable. Listening to acoustic songs using this headphone can be fun too. But for something with more bass, I think this Mi In-Ear Headphone is still not quite there yet.

Well, for a S$20+ in-ear headphone with the sound quality of S$50-S$80+ in-ear headphone, the Mi In-Ear Headphone is seriously doing a very nice job there and beyond expectations.

Conclusion

Overall experience of using the XiaoMi Mi In-Ear Headphone is pretty fun. I have to say that it is among the best budget in-ear headphone out there right now. The build quality and sound quality is great and worth more than it should be. If you are running low on budget and wish to have a decent in-ear headphone, looks no further and this has to be it. Quite balance and fun to listen.
